In order to develop an OAIS compliant digital preservation system (DPS) as part of its work in the PrestoPRIME project, ExLibris performed research on existing standards (including OAIS/PREMIS/METS), tools (for technical metadata extraction, file identification, fixity checks, virus checks and workflow engines) and related av digital preservation related projects/organizations. It then applied its research conclusions in the development of ‘Rosetta’, its commercial digital preservation system. This report includes both an overview of ExLibris’ research outcomes and a detailed description of its proposed OAIS compliant ‘Rosetta’ DPS implementation.

This paper is useful not only for an overview and assessment of current DPS standards and tools but especially for its relatively detailed description of the proposed DPS OAIS implementation for audiovisual archives. Although the implementation is specific to the ExLibris product ‘Rosetta’, it provides a concrete description of a proprosed OAIS compliant audiovisual repository application. Important reading for IT staff involved in designing an OAIS compliant digital preservation system.
