Telecine Field Dominance

This report addresses problems archives may encounter when they try to encode videotapes whose content originates from a telecine transfer of film originals. It focuses particularly on field synchronisation problems which can cause interlacing artefacts, discusses confusion over film dominance and suggests solutions.

This is a technical paper targetting film transfer engineers as well as technical personnel involved in video encoding. The report is considered by the field as ‘required reading’for those doing film or video transfers.
