NFSA Digital Learning

The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) provides a special website with online education resources. It is called NFSA Digital Learning and it combines the former Screen Australia Digital Learning websites and NFSA’s online education resources. The thousands of video and audio clips are available for streaming and downloading using the Quicktime Player. For the enrichment of the content, experienced educators are committed to prepare audio and video clips that are relevant, engaging and challenging for teachers and students. The website was awarded the Communicator Awards 2012 – Award of Distinction, Cultural Institutions website. Variable search options are offered:Digital Resource Finder: a database of almost 400 clips matched with print-friendly two-page resource sheets. Includes background information, engaging student research and classroom activities. Filters are available for region (or national), educational level and subject (nine themes).Australian History Timeline: to search film excerpts via people, place and decade.Education collection on AustralianScreen: the over 1,000 clips are browseable by theme and subtheme. The content is enriched with teachers notes (an abstract and educational value points). Expert curator’s notes provide extra background material. Clips in this collection have been selected for their educational value and any clips that are considered potentially disturbing carry clear classification warnings. For some clips the transcript is also available as a text, where there is no option to start the clip from a specific timecode.Furthermore, the user can browse through the content directly from the home page where specific selections from the collection are offered, such as Australian Biography, Arts portal, Pacific Stories and Captain James Cook.
