D3.1: Tenders for Transfer of Film to Digital Master

Contents:

  • 1. Introduction and Background
  • 2. Calls for Tenders by Film Archives
  • 3. Sample Descriptive Documents

This deliverable from the European Film Gateway 1914 project explains the process of preparing and issuing an RFT (Request for Tender). It was written by the EYE Film Institute staff who built up considerable experience during its participation in the Images for the Future Project. It describes the elements that make up an RFT and includes actual examples taken from the EYE Film Institute’s own RFTs.

Although this deliverable was written for film archives, specifically ACE members and participants in the EFG1914 project, it may be useful to other film archives who have never undergone such a process. Relatively informal in its language, it provides a helpful introduction to writing RFTs. The concrete examples from the EYE’s own experience make it more practical than other general guidelines on the subject.
