This article, written by two staff members of the Singapore National Library Board, dept of Technology & Innovation, describes how the open-source software FFmpeg has been implemented to help manage the library’s digital audiovisual assets. It describes a variety of command line instructions, what they produce and why they might be useful to use.
This article targets staff comfortable working with command line software tools. The authors are clearly very enthusiastic about what FFmpeg can do. It provides practical descriptions of particular FFmpeg commands (including command line screen shots) and is interesting for those looking for concrete examples of how and why the tool might be useful.
